Spanish is an easy language to learn — I mean, come on; we could probably all rattle off a few Spanish expressions right now. Even Italian wouldn’t be that bad — I bet we could all wind up in Italy and manage to figure out enough of the language to get by. But Chinese is a whole different ballgame. You can’t even attempt to muddle your way through the language, since there aren’t any recognizable letters — just characters that mean nothing to most Westerners. This is a problem, since more and more US companies are doing business in China — odds are; you’ll need to know at least some Chinese to succeed in your career.
